The script was co-written by the films director Satoshi Kon with Seishi Minakami who is a famous writer for Manga in Japan. Madhouse animation studio along with Sony Pictures Entertainment produced and distributed the film all over Japan and across the globe. Paprika is a psychotherapist who has developed technology that can trace and interpret dreams accurately in hidden object games. A thief has stolen the machine and has mixed up the world of fantasy with reality. Satoshi Kon experimented with the art design for Paprika he combined 3-D animation with his traditional hand drawn scenes and characters. Susumu Hirasawa composed the beautiful music in this one of a kind game based on the famous anime. Susumu Hirasawa has composed music for some of Kons previous works namely Millennium Actress and Paranoia Agent. The film was premiered at the 63rd Venice International Film Festival on September 2006 and after the premier the film was featured I several other film festivals around the globe such as the Tokyo International Film Festival. Paprika was widely released in Japan on October 2006. The DVD was then released in Japan and the German edition soon followed on August 2007.
